Mercedes Emily Landreneau Hollier, age 95, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 in Lafayette, Louisiana, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She was the mother of Robert Mark Hollier (Nancy), Stephen Paul Hollier (Catherine) and John Leslie Hollier (Claire). She was the proud grandmother of Leslie Michelle Kesler, Lisa Kay Criss, Emily Hollier Smith (Jay), Mary Catherine Hollier Dunphy (Brandon), Michelle Hollier Sonnier (Joshua), and Renee Hollier Guidry (Jacob), and great-grandmother of Dean Kesler, Hayden Criss, Evan Smith, Evelyn Sonnier, and Audrey Guidry.

Mrs. Hollier was the daughter of the late John Mark Landreneau, senior, and Naia Ardoin Landreneau. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of nearly 52 years, Warren Roy Hollier and her three siblings, John Landreneau, junior, Wilma Murphy, and Curry Landreneau.

Mrs. Hollier was a 1940 graduate of Washington High School and 1944 graduate of Hotel Dieu School of Nursing where she became a Registered Surgical Nurse. Upon marrying, she became a homemaker and mother while also serving as a dedicated military wife to Mr. Hollier during his six year service in the United States Navy as a Plank Crew member of the USS Intrepid during World War II.

Mrs. Hollier loved to serve her community. She was an active parishioner of St. Jules Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was a faithful member of the Tanglewood neighborhood rosary group, and loved all of her neighbors. She was also a member of the Lafayette Engineering Ladies’ Auxiliary and volunteered for several charitable organizations.

Mrs. Hollier loved to sew and she shared her exceptional talent as a seamstress with everyone she met, sewing dresses for her granddaughters, altar dressings and decorations for St. Jules, and hundreds of butterfly pillows for the children of the Community Health Clinic. Mrs. Hollier was an avid gardener, and cultivated many different species of Louisiana daylilies and irises in her garden. She also loved to travel with family and spent several summers in Europe with Mr. Hollier, exploring and learning more about their French heritage.
