John A. Pierce, 87 years old, Baptist minister for a half century, died at his home near Pierce, Ky., last Sat.[5 Apr 1929] Death was due to old age and a complication of diseases, following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Pierce was born and reared in Green Co. and had spent a useful life. He has been pastor of the Trammel's Creek Baptist Church at Pierce off and on for the past 50 years and had been an active and influential member of the Russell Creek Baptist Assoc. He was thrice married. His first wife was Mrs. Sarah Hay Pierce; his second wife was Mrs. Liza Jane Slinker Pierce, and his third who survives him is Mrs. Lou Chaudoin Pierce. Children surviving are: Mr. I.B. Pierce, Ira Pierce, Mrs. V. W. Carter, Mrs. A. A. Hay, Mr. Trigg Pierce, Mr. E. B. Pierce, Mr. Gillock Pierce, Mrs. V. C. Thompson of Greensburg and Mrs. Cora E. Clark, of Louisville. Services were conducted at the Trammel Creek Baptist Church at Pierce in the presence of many hundreds of his friends and relatives, the Rev. Thurman Curry, of Campbellsville officiating. Interment was in the Pierce graveyard, a few miles from Pierce.
