Mollie was born in the Galicia province of Austria-Hungary (now Ukraine). In 1903, she immigrated to the United States with her husband and six of her nine children, the others having arrived earlier. They settled in Manhattan.

Mollie lost her husband in 1910. She died of cancer of the gall bladder and liver and was survived by ten children and a number of grandchildren.

(Notes:

1. Certain sources suggest that Mollie Buxbaum was actually born in 1862.

2. Certain of Mollie Buxbaum's descendents have claimed that her first name was actually Amelia or Bella. No evidence has surfaced to substantiate these claims.

3. Mollie Buxbaum allegedly used "Sternberg" as a maiden name. There are doubts as to whether or not this was her actual maiden name, a made-up name, or the name of a step-parent or first husband.)
