He was born in November 1842; nearly 77 years old; soldier of civil war; crippled leg being entirely deficient. He drew very large pension from government. Levi was conspicuous figure in his section, always interested in politics - - - kind of political king of Laus Creek. In stormy days of politics, when it was important for Republicans to win - - - Capt. Schilling, Major Morrill or Tom McLaughlin made haste to see Levi and secure the vote of his section, which they claimed he carried in his pocket at all times never stopping to question Levis quality or methods.
