JANUARY 10, 1941 ~ OCTOBER 9, 2018 (AGE 77)

Virgil David Cecil, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at his home in Winfield, Tennessee with his loving family by his side.

David lost his two-year battle with cancer.

He was the first child born in Mine 18 Camp, Barthel, Kentucky to Desdie and Virgil Cecil on January 10, 1941.

As a child, his family moved to Dixie where he grew up.

As a young man, he had many jobs and learned many trades.

In 1961, he met and married his loving wife, Virginia Taylor. They moved to Louisville where he began a 22-year career at International Harvester as a tool and die maker. While living in Louisville, he was also a volunteer Firefighter. After International Harvester closed, he began working at Tecumseh in Somerset, Kentucky. This brought about moving his family to Winfield, Tennessee.

David was a true entrepreneur. After moving to Winfield, he had several successful businesses which included a service station, pawn shop, builder and mulch yard. Probably the most important job to him was as Mayor of Winfield. He took this job very seriously and worked tirelessly for his community.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Paul Cecil; and sister Eloise Cecil Rutledge.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Virginia Taylor Cecil; daughter Susan Zimlich (Bob) of Louisville; son, Joseph D. Cecil (Susanne) of Winfield; sisters, Gloria Cecil of Louisville, Mary Haisley of Carrollton, Georgia, Kathy King of Lexington, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; his faithful dog Ruby; and many other family members and friends.

David's request was cremation.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Millcreek Methodist Church in Sawyer, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to: The McCreary Christian Center P.O. Box 363 Whitley City, Kentucky 42653
