Gary Lewis Acker, age 67, of Ozark, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 in his home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 13, 1933 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of John Wesley and Lois (Van Hall) Acker. During his working career he was fortunate to have done business throughout the United States. He owned and operated banks in Cassville, Missouri; Flower Mound, Texas; and Beverly Hills, California. He served as councilman and mayor for the City of Flower Mound, Tx. As president of Metropolitan Radio Group he owned several radio stations in Jacksonville and Tampa Bay, Fl; Shreveport, La.; St. Louis and Kansas City, Mo.; Amarillo, Tx.; Pueblo, Co.; Roswell, New Mexico; Norfolk, Va.; Memphis, Tn.; and Little Rock, Arkansas. He also owned TV 8 in Springfield, Missouri, and Ozarks Senior Living newspa¬per. He loved showing his Tennessee Walking Horses, and won several large shows over the years. Survivors include: seven chil¬dren, Sherilyn Snow and her husband Ron, Tulsa, Ok., Mark Acker, Ozark, Melissa Warren and her husband Jonathon, Springfield; Jonathon, Gary Luke, Elizabeth, and Tiffany Acker, all of Ozark; three grand¬children and their spouses, Scott and Audra Jordan, Joplin, Ryan and Dayna Snow, Sparta, and Daniel and Dana Snow, Tulsa, Ok.; three great-grand-children, Chance Jordan, Destiny Jordan, and Charity Snow; his father, John Wesley Acker and wife Ruth, Springfield; his best friend, Brenda Maples, Nixa; a sister-¬in-law, Phylis Acker, Springfield; a nephew, John Acker, Springfield; a great-niece, Amy Acker; the mother of his children, Janet Acker, Ozark; other relatives and many friends. Preceding him in death were his mother, Lois Acker, and a brother, John Acker. Funeral services were Friday, August 4, in First Evangelical Free Church, Highway 65 and Evans Road with Mark Acker officiating. Burial was in Eastlawn Cemetery, Springfield. Arrangements were under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
