Major Clinton “Clint” Franklin Martin, Jr., 77 of Mount Airy, passed away on Saturday morning, October 6, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson from complication of lung and liver cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. Major Martin was a 1959 graduate of Mount Airy High School. He attended and played football for Lees McRae College and graduated from Cameron University in Lawton Oklahoma. He later received a Master’s Degree from CGSE in Leavenworth. He was born in Surry County on November 27, 1940 to the late Clinton Franklin Martin, Sr. and Hazel Harris Martin Bennett. Major Martin was retired from the United States Army and attended Southside Baptist Church. He was a volnnteer for Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, where he helped the veteran’s during their illness. Major Martin will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Maria Riddle; sons and daughter-in-law, Clinton F. Martin III from Amelia Island, FL, Joseph Lance Martin and Vicki W. from Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Zachary P. Martin from Amelia Island, FL, Ridge A. Martin from Dallas, TX. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Fellows officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
