Nellie Lois (Ackerman) Bruns age 92, formerly of Worthington, MN, passed away at the Castle Rock Care Center in Castle Rock, Colorado on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016.
She was born in George, Iowa on March 6, 1924 to Ed and Tina (Grave) Ackerman and grew up attending school in Ashton, Iowa. Nellie and Marvin Bruns were married on July 21, 1944 in Ashton. They farmed for 20 years outside of Worthington and moved to town in 1964. After Marvin's passing in 1987, Nellie moved to Sioux Falls, SD and finally to Castle Rock, CO for 11 years.
Nellie is survived by her eight children, Lanore (Harlan) Hayenga, Windom, MN; Debra (John) Meinders, Eagan, MN; Donna Heronimus, Brandon, SD; Marsha Heineke, Greeley, CO; Richard (Pam) Bruns, Champlin, MN; Marilyn (Steve) Nutter, Lakewood, CO; Bernita Bruns (partner Mark Costanzo) Lakewood, CO; Ron (Cathy) Bruns, Castle Rock, CO. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister Marvella Schaa, Sibley, IA; sisters-in-law Berdeen Ackerman, Sibley, IA; Erma Wick and Donna Bruns, both of Worthington, MN.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her mother and father, two sons-in-law Jim Heronimus and David Heineke, great-grandson Greyson Heineke, brothers Harvey and Marlin Ackerman and sister Verna (Ackerman) Bruns.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Benson Funeral Home, 1225 Ryans Road, Worthington, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, 116 N. Bishop Ave, Rushmore MN. Reverend Dan Dittman officiating. Burial will be at the Ashton Cemetery.
