Narcotics officers had a station wagon under surveillance near the Rio Grand River. Officer Pablo Albidrez Jr. parked his vehicle in front of the station wagon and Officer C. Viera parked his car to the rear of the station wagon. As Albidrez approached the vehicle on foot, he was shot.
Arturo Aranda, 27, and Juan Aranda, 32 were apprehended and charged with capital murder. One was sentenced to life, the other was given the death penalty.
Numerous weapons were seized, along with 300 pounds of marijuana from the station wagon.
Albidrez was survived by his wife and two daughters.
