Joan Darlie Hewitt (formerly Lang, nee Moxon)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the quiet passing of our mother. She died peacefully in her home on the evening of Sunday, November 11th, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born October 5th, 1925 in Toronto, the youngest child and only daughter of the late Marjorie Hayes and Norman Moxon. She was born and lived her entire life in the North Toronto area, where her grandparent's originally farmed and lived. She attended John Ross Robertson Public School and Lawrence Park Collegiate. She is predeceased by her brothers, Jack and James. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Peggy and Marion Moxon. She is predeceased by husbands Gordon S. Lang and Foster Hewitt.
She was a loving and devoted mother and mother in law to Stuart and Kim Lang, Sherry and Francois Laveau, Donald and Karen Lang and Barbara and Ian Newlands. Beloved and affectionate "Grano" to her grandchildren Julien, Nicholas, Daniel, Erin, Robyn, Timothy, Trevor, Wesley, Spencer, Harrison and Jordon.
She will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile and blue eyes, her quick sense of humor, and her gracious generosity. She always loved to have her children and their friends around, and created an open and welcoming home for any and all. She had a great ability to laugh at herself, a wonderful joie de vivre, and a comfortable and disarming personality that quickly put people at ease.
She introduced her children to memorable winter vacations, summer cottaging in Muskoka and as adults were later blessed with the pleasure of her company along with her grandchildren on numerous family vacations.
