Mattie L.Owens Curry Able was born February 25,1921 in
Green County,Kentucky to the late Richard Owens and Katie
Williams Owens.Mattie was one of eight children,seven
preceded her in death.She attended Green County Public
Schools.

In 1936,Mattie professed hope in Christ and was baptized
at Mount Union Baptist Church under the pastorate of
Rev.G.W.Edwards.She was united in marriage to Sidney Curry
on September 19,1938.To this union three children were
born.The family resided in Taylor and Marion Counties,
Kentucky before moving to Louisville in 1953.She united
with New Zion Baptist Church in May 1955.

Mattie was a former employee of Louisville Linen now
National Linen and H.A.Seinshimer.Afterwards she was the
housekeeper for the Billy Davis and Bud Harrison families
until retirement.

Later in life,Mattie was united in marriage to Richard Able
in 1963.Mattie had a special love for her family along with
her love for her yard and garden.For many years she
participated in the Community Garden on Seventh Street.She
loved to prepare and can the vegetables she grew.This skill
was also used to assist with the many dinners at her
church.

Mattie and Richard's home was always open to numerous
college students as their home away from home.

Her life will be remembered and cherished by her three
children,Bertha Springer,Mack Allen and Robert Franklin
Curry;two brothers-in-law,Fred Jackson and Eddie Able(New
Albany,IN.)seven grandchildren,sixteen great grandchildren,
and a host of nieces,nephews,cousins and friends.

The pain of death are past
Labor and sorrow cease
Life's long warfare is closed at last
Her soul has found it's peace.
