Born Feb. 7, 1940, at Dodge City, Kan., she was the daughter of Leroy and Lillian (Corcoran) Speer. She attended Dodge City Public School and Dodge City High School, graduating in 1958.
She married Thomas M. Backus on June 10, 1961, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City. The family lived in various places: Dodge City, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa and Ord, before moving to Pierce in 2015.
Rosalind worked as a bookkeeper and later on was a stay-at-home mom. Her spouse, Tom, was an optician.
Rosalind enjoyed collecting and making dolls, reading, flowers, birds and spending time with family.
Survivors include her spouse, Thomas M. Backus of Pierce; a son, Tom (Teri) Backus of Olathe, Kan.; a son, Carroll “Greg” (Wanda) Backus of Pierce; a daughter, Cynthia Backus of Pierce; a son, Kevin (Kathi) Backus of Sioux City; a daughter, Teresa (John) Jacobson of New Orleans, La.; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley (William) Baum of Raymore, Mo., and Madeleine Black of Clarendon, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Lillian, and four siblings, Theresa, Stanley, Dorothy and Gale.
Recorded songs will be “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” “Amazing Grace” and “You Raise Me Up.”
