Duane Ray Sudweeks, 80, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully Nov. 25, 2016, at home.
He had courageously fought Parkinson's Disease for the last 15 years.

He was born June 20, 1936 to Calvin Sudweeks and Thelma "M" Nielson in Ephraim, Utah. Duane served two years as an LDS missionary in the New England States Mission. He met his eternal companion, Carolyn Adams, on a blind date. They were married and sealed for time and eternity in the LDS St. George Temple Sept. 7, 1961.

In 1963, Duane earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from BYU. After graduation, Duane's work career included designing bridges for the State of California, working as the North Las Vegas city engineer, being the administrator of the Colorado River Commission and designing power plants for Nevada Power. Duane became an expert in water and power rights and was a Registered Professional Engineer in California and Nevada.

Duane was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in many capacities including more than six years as a Bishop in the North Las Vegas 33rd ward and almost 10 years as the first counselor in the North Las Vegas Nevada Stake Presidency. Duane and Carolyn served over 12 years as ordinance workers in the Las Vegas Temple.

Duane enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. He was an accomplished violinist, loved playing the guitar and possessed a beautiful baritone singing voice. His greatest joy came from his relationship with Carolyn. They were a beautiful couple who danced together with the greatest of elegance and grace.

Duane was preceded in death by both his parents; and son, Jeffrey Duane Sudweeks.

Duane is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carolyn Adams Sudweeks; three daughters, Diane Sudweeks Ireland (Mark), Sherri Sudweeks Boehme, and Michele Sudweeks Boehme (Don); sister Shirley Cox (R. LaVaun); brothers, Calvin Keith Sudweeks (Virginia) and Dean Alan Sudweeks (Carolyn); 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be 10 - 10:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., both at the West Alexander LDS Chapel, 8801 W. Alexander Road, Las Vegas. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at the Bunkerville Cemetery.
