Cecil Mason Day, 69, a resident of 29 Westgate, died unexpectedly Saturday evening at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wilmington on Oct. 3, 1918, the son of Arthur and Claire (Breen) Day. He received his educaton in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. He was a World War II army veteran and had received a Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal. He was married to Nina Morgan Howe on Sept. 18, 1953, in Putney. In earlier years he had been a carpenter with F.N. Dessaint Contractors in Brattleboro. He later worked at American Optical in Brattleboro, and had worked for 25 years as a tractor trailer driver for A.L. Root Lumber Company in Brattleboro. He retired in 1984. He was a member of VFW Post 1034 in Brattleboro, and a former member of the Wilmington Congregational Church. His home and family were his primary interests. Survivors include: his wife, Nina Day of Brattleboro; a son, Richard Howe of Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Joyce Howe Shopey of Hinsdale, N.H.; a grandson, Steven Perry of Hinsdale; a grandaughter, Bonnie Lynn Perry of Greenfield, Mass.: and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Day was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Raymo and Isabelle Day. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at the Covey and Allen Funeral Home in Wilmington with the Rev. Theodore Newcomb, pastor of the Wilmington Congregational Church, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will take place in the family lot in Riverview Cemetery, Wilmington, Friday at 11 a.m.
