Charles A. Shaffer, 80, of 1720 Hemlock Road, died Saturday at Lancaster General Hospital after a three-month illness. He was the husband of Esther E. Martinez-Shaffer. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last October. He attended Franklin and Marshall College and worked for the former Armstrong Cork, now Armstrong World Industries, in the inspections department for 30 years. He retired 15 years ago. Shaffer was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose of Elizabethtown and the American Association of Retired Persons. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles A. Shaffer and Lulu Shaffer Haines. Surviving is his wife. (Lancaster New Era - June 22, 1992)
