Birth Certificate lists middle name as "Katherine" however, Mary always used "Catherine". Her parents were not married. Her mother, Eva Naomi Wintrode, died when she was 3 years old and Mary was raised by her grandparents, Rolandis and Vianna (Dutterer) Wintrode.

Mary's handmade quilts were legendary, beautiful works of art. Every stitch was done by hand, and the love she put into each of her creations was obvious. She was "green" before it was popular, reusing clothing to create her masterpieces. Each quilt was a walk down memory lane remembering a shirt she wore, or clothes she had made for herself and family.
