Alfred Burdorf, age 95, of Arlington passed away Monday, September 24, 2018, at Golden Hearts Senior Living Center in Arlington. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29th at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service time Saturday all at the church. Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington is handling the arrangements.
Alfred Jacob Edward Burdorf was born on February 4, 1923, in Arlington Township, Sibley County to Herman and Anna (Kroells) Burdorf. Alfred was baptized February 11, 1923, by Rev. Robert Heidmann at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington. Alfred completed an 8th grade education and was confirmed May 21, 1937. Alfred was united in marriage to Evelyn Kaufmann on August 23, 1958, at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe by Rev. A. F. Fellwack. Alfred served his country in the US Army in Japan during WWII, and was a member of American Legion Post 250 for 70 years. Over the years, Alfred worked for Noack & Sons, Farmhand, Inc. and Sibley County DAC. Alfred and Evelyn also farmed in Arlington Township and raised Jersey cattle. Alfred was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington. Alfred enjoyed woodworking, making wine, Fords, and visiting. He had an amazing memory filled with many stories. Alfred was so very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Alfred is survived by his daughter; Mary Beth (Gary) Fitterer of Rochester, son; Mark Burdorf of Scottsdale, AZ, grandchildren; Matthew Fitterer of Rochester, Erik (Lauren) Fitterer of Golden Valley, and Kelsey Fitterer of Fargo, ND; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law; Verna (Harold) Kunkel, Daun Kaufmann, LaVonne Kaufmann, Lorna Kaufmann and Alice Kaufmann as well as many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Alfred is preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law; Alex and Emma Kaufmann, wife; Evelyn on April 2, 2018, twin children; Bruce Alfred and Beth Louise in infancy, brother; Elmer Burdorf, sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law; Arlene and Lorraine Burdorf, Hillard, Marvin, Maynard and LeRoy Kaufmann, Victor and Lorraine Brinkmeier and Arlene Kaufmann.
