Rupert Charles Hester, Jr. age 96 of Lenoir City, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. He was born in Rogersville, TN. Charles was raised in the Baptist faith, where he was saved and baptized at an early age. He volunteered to serve our country in World War II, serving with the U. S. Army 84th Infantry in the European Theater. Charles was awarded the Bronze Star and several merit awards. After he was discharged, Charles worked paving construction, pipe gas line construction, small cattle ranch in Texas and retired from Yale Security after 29 plus years of service. He loved his family, friends and neighbors, gardening and traveling to all 49 states. Preceded in death by his father, Rupert C. Hester, Sr.; mother, Mabel Wilson Hester, and brother, Douglas Hester. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Margaret Gray Hester; nephew, Keith Hester and wife, Valerie; niece, Cindy Hester McCord; aunt, Ethel Wilson and several cousins from Rogersville. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 29th at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Family and friends will then proceed to Loudon Co. Memorial Gardens for 2 p.m. graveside services with Rev. Glen Gamble officiating. Full military honors will be conferred. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 4333 Highway 11 East, Lenoir City, TN 37772, where he attended church after moving back to Lenoir City or KARM in Knoxville.
