Carl J. Newbraugh, 81, of Chicago Avenue, Westover, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Morgan Manor.

He was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Morgantown, son of the late Hugh T. "Chiefie" and Alice E. DeVault Newbraugh.

He retired after 30 years as a salesman for Oscar Mayer Meat Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, one of the founders of the Little Falls Boat Club, played steel guitar for the Gospel Singing Koon Family, was a longtime member of the Westover Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of Westover United Methodist Church and Monongalia Lodge 10 IOOF.

He is survived by two daughters and a spouse, Judith Ann Haught, of Morgantown, and Linda and Ed Neville, of Westover; a brother and spouse, Dana L. and Jean Newbraugh, of Fairmont; a sister and spouse, Mary "Lottie" and the Rev. George Koon, of Westover, two sisters-in-law, Adelaide Newbraugh and Wilma Newbraugh, both of Westover; four grandchildren and three spouses, Steve and Sarah Haught, of Morgantown, Scott Haught, of Morgantown, Jim and Kellie Neville, of Westover, and Lori and John Neville Hunt, of Westover; and great-grandchildren, Jordan Neville, Josh Neville, Jace Neville, Carley Hunt, Hunter Haught, Autumn Haught and Gunnar Haught.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Thelma Lorraine Lucas Newbraugh in 1989; three brothers, Glenn E. Newbraugh, Donald H. Newbraugh and Paul D. Newbraugh; and two sisters, Bonita Joy and Edna Glee.

Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, with the Rev. Kevin Cain officiating, Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. Graveside military service will be conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916, with "Taps" performed by Michelle Wilkins of Westwood Middle School.
