One of the last early pioneers in this section, Anna died at her home in the Village Thursday. For 69 years she had been a resident of this community. Anne Margaret Pontius was born in Michigan City, (now Chicago, IL) on July 9, 1859. Nine years later, in 1868, she came with her family to the county. On June 3, 1879 she married Frederick Dinkel. Mr. Dinkel was well known here in an early day. He operated the first meat market in Long Prairie from 1889 to 1894 on the site now occupied by Fortmann Jewelry Store. When Mrs. Dinkel came to Long Prairie there were only 3 residences here. At an early age her mother died and while still a child she was mother as well as sister to the other children in the family. A vigorous woman in spite of her years, Mrs. Dinkel enjoyed recalling early events in the community in which she lived so long. Her mind was keen and memory accurate.
