Alfred was born April 23, 1947 in Talbotton, Ga., the son of Noel Douglas Lucas, Sr. and Frances Marie Kidd Lucas. He was a lifelong resident of Talbot County and worked many years as an upholsterer for Reeves Furniture Co. in Waverly Hall and Jenkins Upholstery in Columbus. He also operated his own upholstery business where his skills and attention to detail led to him being very much in demand for his upholstery work.
Since October 1993, Alfred had been employed by the Georgia Forestry Commission, where he was currently serving as Chief Ranger Senior. He considered the Forestry staff to be his "second family." He loved his grandchildren and spent as much time with them as possible. He also loved sports and was a strong proponent of youth sports. He was one of the original coaches and organizers of the group that later became the Waverly Hall Youth Sports Association. He was also instrumental in starting the youth football program in Talbotton, Ga. As a coach he impacted the lives of countless numbers of children over the years.
Alfred loved hunting and in the past several years enjoyed feeding and watching deer that came into his backyard. Always the family jokester, he will be remembered by those who knew him for his wonderful sense of humor, and his love of family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Curtis Lucas; and a brother, Noel Douglas "Doug" Lucas, Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Natalie Lucas Emery of Cumming, Ga.; a son, Brian Lucas (Bethany) of Waverly Hall, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael Christian Lucas, Lexi Elle Emery, Libby Synclaire Lucas, and Jake Matthew Lucas; two sisters, Beth Green (Sanford) and Martha Faye Ross, all of Waverly Hall; his former wives, Victoria Whatley, mother of Natalie; and Janet Fowler, mother of Brian and Michael; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Olive Branch United Methodist Church, Talbotton, Ga., followed by interment in the Waverly Hall Cemetery.
Cox Funeral Home, Manchester, Ga. is assisting the family with arrangements.
