GUSTAVUS - Alice A. Kalas, 92, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at Windsor House at Champion.

She was born July 29, 1926, in Kinsman, a daughter of Ellen Fedelia (Fobes) and Lloyd Charles Barry.

A lifetime area resident, Mrs. Kalas was a 1944 graduate of Gustavus High School.

She was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church and a member of the Nesface Group in Kinsman, where she served as treasurer. She served for over 10 years as secretary for her Alumni banquets and as secretary/treasurer of her bowling league.

She enjoyed the holidays with her family, embroidery, canning, bowling, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She was an avid Cleveland Cavs and Indians fan.

Mrs. Kalas married Joseph Kalas on Oct. 23, 1944, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2006. She was also preceded by her parents and her stepmother, Hazel (Ipe) Barry; an infant daughter; infant sister, Marian Barry and three sisters, Doris Rohe, Frances Cutlip, and Lela Heikkila; and four brothers, Willis, Charles, George and Elwood Barry.

She is survived by three daughters, Alice E. (Gary) Everitt of Bazetta, Diana L. (Glen) Marvin of Kinsman, and Shirley E. (Bill) Koppel of McDonald; one son, Ronald (Patricia) Kalas of Columbus; 10 grandchildren, Lynn (Carl) Ray of Andover, Joe Marvin of Kinsman, David (Luba) Everitt of Fowler, Sheri (Mark) Knepel of Broomfield, Colo., Dawn Everitt-Yurich of West Palm Beach, Fla., Ryan Kalas of Los Alamos, N.M., Kara (Morgan) Sheesley of McDonald, Aimee (Paul) Crabtree of Dublin, Ohio, Kevin Koppel of Austintown, and Erin (Josh) Rogers of Kent; and 16 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Yard, David Everitt, Sophia Johnson, Jenna and Evan Ray, Mia, Maddy and Max Knepel, Nora and Owen Crabtree, Selah, Naomi, Eden and Olivia Sheesley, Xavier Koppel, and Lily Rogers.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., in Kinsman. Burial will follow in Gustavus Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday, Sept. 21, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren Family Mission or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
