Born in London c. 1808, Edward Clark, parents unknown, was first married c. 1831 to #1 Eliza Walker, daughter of Edward & Elizabeth née unknown Walker. The couple are first listed with their first four children living in Sutton Place on the 1841 Marylebone, Middlesex, London census:
Edward- 1811
Eliza- 1806 (pregnant with Sarah)
Ellen- 1832
William- 1836
Joseph- 1838
Mary- 1840

His wife Eliza, born on 9 July 1805 & christened at Saint Mary, St. Marylebone, London, had 2 more children, Sarah & Edward, before her death in 1845 (Marylebone death record lists her as Eliza Walker Clark).

Edward married next in 1847 to #2 Frances Saggs, daughter of John & Sarah née unknown Saggs, in Marylebone, London. Edward & Frances had (at least) four children in London (no 1851 census found) before immigrating to the US with their family in 1852.

Departing in February from London, the crossing took six weeks and they arrived in NYC on 23 March 1852. Their immigration record (see photo) lists the couple with ten children & indicates that their youngest, Jane, was just 9 months when they arrived. The family headed west to Kane County by train & settled in St Charles, IL in May of 1852. The journey must have been arduous on his wife Frances, pregnant at the time, who gave birth to daughter Fanny in St Charles on May 13th, and also to the little ones- three of their children died within a few months after reaching their destination. Frances was to have one more child, George, in 1853 before she died, presumably in childbirth.

1854 saw the deaths of two more of Edward’s little ones- Elizabeth (from his first wife) & his youngest George (from his second).

Edward remarried to #3 Harriet née unknown King on June 19th, 1855, Kane Co., IL. The 1855 Kane Co., IL census shows a family of 9 which would include Edward & Harriet plus all six of the children from his first wife and Susannah, the only surviving child from his second marriage. The 1860 St Charles census shows the couple with five of his children. Little is known of his third wife Harriet who was born c. 1805 in Vermont. Previously married to Thomas King (born c. 1790 Scotland- ?, died sometime between 1850-1855), Harriet & Thomas were included on the 1850 Virgil Township, Kane Co., IL census. Harriet died between 1860-1869 & is presumably buried with Thomas King but no graves or death records are found as yet for either.

Late in life, Edward was joined in marriage for one final time to #4 Charlotte née Scholes Kirk on May 26th, 1869, Kane Co., IL, widow of Joseph Kirk. The 1870 St Charles census includes Edward & Charlotte with her grandson William L Bristol.

Note: The Clark monument is in very poor condition.
The south facing side (worst: overgrown with lichen) has inscriptions for Edward, a cenotaph for first wife Eliza & an inscription for second wife Frances but little can be made out beyond parts of their names.
The west facing side (best: crumbly stone, mostly legible) has inscriptions for five of his infant/toddler children (John, Jane, Fanny, Elizabeth & George in order of their deaths).
The north facing side (poor: partially legible) appears to have an inscription only for son Edward who died in the Civil War.
The east facing side appears to be blank.
