Iolus James Wilson
June 13, 1924 ~ September 15, 2018 (age 94)

Iolus James Wilson went home to meet his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 15, 2018. He was 94 years old. Mr Wilson was born and raised in Wedowee, Alabama to Charles Wilson and Julia Hill Wilson on June 13, 1924. He was the second oldest of thirteen children. In 1944, he was drafted into the Army and served his country during WWII until February 1946.
While in the army, Mr. Wilson served in Europe as a Military Policeman with the 53rd armored infantry battalion under General George Patton. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal along with the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 bronze stars. After discharge from the army, Mr. Wilson lived most of his adult life in Athens, Ga where he managed East Lawn Memorial Perpetual Care cemetery.
He was also an ordained minister and spent most of his life sharing his strong faith in God with others. He spent many years as a Pastor and mentor to many, teaching the word of God. And he was respected and admired by many. Mr. Wilsons favorite past time was fishing and he enjoyed many hours sitting by a lake, rod in hand. It was his peaceful place.
Survivors include three daughters: Tammie Smith of Danielsville, Ga, Tonya Linder of Dandridge, Tn, and Trixie Ware of Watkinsville, Ga. One brother, Jerry Wilson, and three sisters: Blondale Sweet, Shelia Hillard, and Joyce Lynn Hernandez, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, September 19 at 11 am with a graveside service in Athens Memory Gardens. Kevin “Chappy” Hines will officiate.The family will receive friends September 18 from 5-8 pm at Lord and Stephens Funeral home East.
