He was born on June 28, 1949 at Fort Riley, Kansas the son of Merle and Barbara. Richard was proud of his service to our country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Postal Service.
Richard and JoAnn Smith were united in marriage of January 9, 1971 in San Jose, CA. This union was blessed with two children: Nicole and Nick. JoAnn preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2007.
He was a member of the Yard Art Classics Car Club of Manhattan. He truly enjoyed taking pictures of everyone’s cars for their newsletter and meeting new people at the car shows. Above all, he loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn and his daughter: Nicole in 2017.
Survivors include his son: Nick Arena and his wife Heidi of Lenexa, Kansas and 2 grandchildren: Isabel and Tristin.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm on Wednesday September 19, 2018 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas. Private inurnment of the ashes will be at a later date.
