Barbara was born October 25, 1942, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Leyendecker) Hamilton. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and received her LPN at the Mercy School of Nursing.
Barbara married Donald West on November 7, 1962.
She worked at Heritage Specialty Care for 35 years
and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. Barbara enjoyed traveling to Florida to soak up the sunshine, the beach and maybe a good book. She also took pleasure in watching her granddaughter Rylie at her dance recitals, shopping and any kind of chocolate.
Survivors include her daughters, Patty (Scott) Brecht of Cedar Rapids, Penny (Tom) Burns of Cedar Rapids, Donna (Jeff) West-Benfer of Swisher, Iowa, and Darcy (Danny) Heiken of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, David (Angel) Burns, Matthew (Julia) Brecht, Austin (Allison) Burns, Shelby Heiken and Rylie Heiken; and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Brecht.
Also surviving are: siblings, Billie (John) Mrzlak, Susie (Jeff) Henley, Jerry (Barb) Hamilton, Jim (Patty) Hamilton, John (Kathy) Hamilton, Mike (Carol) Hamilton, Tom (Connie) Hamilton and Robert (Deb) Hamilton; brother-in-law Jim (Paulette) West and sister-in-law Rita (Jerry) Brown; many nieces and nephews; and best friend, Shari Connel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Gayle Marie Hamilton, and a brother and sister in infancy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Heritage Specialty Care as well as Care Initiatives Hospice for the loving care they provided to Barbara.
