A 1965 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, Ed went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana State University.
Ed was a correctional program specialist for the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute, from which he retired after 25 years of service. Never one to have idle hands or mind, Ed worked at the Hamilton Center as a job coach following his retirement. He also held a lifetime teaching certificate in the state of Indiana.
A devoted husband, father, and friend, Ed was always someone you could count on for anything. Ed had a passion for metal-working, welding, and wrought iron design and fabrication. After moving to Florida, Ed enjoyed boating and fishing, gardening, and he even began writing poetry. However, nothing was as cherished as spending time with his grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as “Pappy.”
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Austin Deischer and Leveuda (DeWitt) Deischer, and one granddaughter, Madison Williams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Susan Gilbert Deischer; two daughters, Stacey Deischer of Terre Haute and Samantha Boyll of Tampa, FL; son-in-law Timothy Boyll of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren Arianna Boyll (20), Roman Williams (19), Nicky Williams (17), Zoe Boyll (16), and Garrett Williams (15); one brother, Paul Deischer of North Port, FL; and several cousins and in-laws in both Indiana and Florida.
Burial will be at Highland Lawn Cemetery.
