Born March 26, 1899 in Ferrum, VA, William J. Adams, 73, was the son of the late Alexander Adams and Jennie Martin Adams. He died at 3 p.m. Sunday in a local hospital, following a short illness. He was a retired coal miner, and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Harper Heights.

Survivors include his widow, Mary Basham Adams; three sons, William J "Doug" Adams (Betty) of Newark, New Jersey, Agree (Anna) with the U.S. Air Force in Germany, and Joseph (Judi) of Richmond, CA.; five daughters, Mrs. Bessie (Randolph) Moore of Harper Heights, Mrs. Gloria Mae (Lonnie) Johnson and Ms. Ginger Adams, both of El Sobrante, CA, Mrs. Sallie (George) Pullen, Mrs. Cynthia (Dwight) Sheldon of Beckley, and Ms. Andrea Adams of the home; six brothers, Buford of Waynesboro, VA, Johnny of Winding Gulf, Benjamin of Detroit, MI, Elbert of Harper Heights, David of Beckley and Walter of Eccles; three sisters, Mrs. Cordelia Jones of Winding Gulf, Mrs. Patricia Letchia Wilson and Mrs. Mary E. Burnett both of Detroit, MI., and fourteen grandchildren.

Final rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Harper Heights, with the Revs. Eric Tyree and W. M. Jones officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley WV.
