Born in Black Mountain, NC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Henry Rice and the late Georgiana Spearman Rice. As a member of Grace Baptist Church, she faithfully served in the past on the Wednesday night suppers, as a Sunday morning door greeter and as her Sunday School class secretary. She was a long-time employee of First Federal Savings & Loan and retired from Farmers Telephone Company in 2007.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by, six brothers, Al Rice, John Rice, Ernest Rice, Luther Rice, Claude Rice, and Jack Rice; and six sisters Bellva Rice, Nell Crocker, Myrtle Payne, Mary Clayton, Sara Wilson and Faye Talbot.
