Mrs. Amanda Peters is buried today:
Amanda P Christison was born in Missouri July 30 1845, and departed this life at the home of her son, Walter Peters near Hartford, Kansas September 17 1917 at the age of 72 years 1 month and 15 days.
When 19 years of age she was converted to Christ, becoming a member of the Christian Church of which body she remained a faithful member until God called her from this world.
On the 28th of July 1869 she was united in marriage to Joseph H. Peters who preceded her in death about 8 years ago. To this union 6 children were born, 4 of whom have passed from this world. The surviving children are Walter Peters of Hartford, Kansas and Mrs. F.L. Lore of Lebo, Kansas. She also leaves to mourn her departure one sister, Mrs. R.M Bowlin of Key West Twp., three brothers J.T Christison of Idaho, L.A. Christison of Kansas and J.W. Christison of this county. 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
After a short service at the home near Kennedy Creek school house Northwest of Ottumwa, Tuesday Sept.18th, the funeral services were conducted at the section church in charge of Marvin W. Kelly at 2 O'clock, after which the mortal remains of Mrs. Peters were laid away beside her husband's grave in Key West cemetery to await the call when the sea and earth shall give up their dead.
The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved and sorrowing family but the beautiful life she lived will long remain and be an influence upon those whose lives she has touched.
