John W. Shell, Sr., 79, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home in El Dorado, and led by Pastor Dave Melton of the Benton Christian Church. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery.
John was born on Sept. 5, 1938 in Fredonia, the son of John J. and Kathryn (Fellers) Shell. John was a 1956 graduate of Leon High School. He worked as a machinist for Cessna, Associated and Britton Manufacturing, and as an oil field roughneck for many years. He was a member of the Leon Masonic Lodge and loved to fish and hunt. John enjoyed trips to the casino, Louie L ’amour novels and old westerns on TV. As a young man, he enjoyed riding motorcycles.
His greatest joy was his family, which includes: his children John W. Shell, Jr of Wichita, Jeffrey (Jessie Frisbie) Shell of El Dorado, and Cathleen Frazier of Wichita; grandsons, Jason Shell and Treyston Frazier; sisters, Elaine Shell of Rose Hill, Joyce Peden of Wichita, and Linda Poulter of El Dorado.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Louise (McAdoo) Shell; second wife, Charlotte (Camp) Smith; grandson, Cordell Frazier; sister, Mavis Troutman.
