Bright, Judy
Long time Scottsdale resident, business owner, and real life "Rosie the Riveter" passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born on May 9, 1925 in Centralia, Kansas population 500, (including some domestic pets). The product of a difficult childhood she attended six different schools before 8th grade. At 16, in December of 1941, she was leaving a movie theater in Kansas City, Missouri, when she was told that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. Her reply, "Where's Pearl Harbor?" In less than two years she was working in support of the WWII war effort. She worked at Benson Aircraft in 1943 riveting gas tanks for the Douglas C-54 Skymaster transport airplane. She also worked as a final inspector at Pratt and Whitney plant on the Twin Wasp engine in 1945. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Reece Bright. In her mid-thirties she moved to Scottsdale, which she would call home for the rest of her life. For over 20 years she was actively involved in running Bright Eyes Optical in Scottsdale with her husband and son. She was well known for her infectious smile, sense of humor, incredible memory, colorful metaphors and sometimes volatile temper. She is survived by her son Cody Bright, daughter in law Donna, grandchildren Conner and Bethany, brother Gary Homan, sister in law Janet and several nieces and nephews. A special appreciation to Hospice of the Valley and Ilie and Adriana Iugan of A Place In The Sun Assisted Living.
