Howard was born January 5, 1939, in Lovell, WY, the son of Julius Earl and Ruby May (Copeland) Hansen. He grew up in Wyoming, which is where his love and appreciation of nature and various landscapes began. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and being outdoors. He later moved to Mandan, ND, where he met his wife, Marcia, and they raised their family. Howard served in the Army National Guard as an auto mechanic, which fueled his love and appreciation of cars and trucks. He especially had a great admiration for classic cars. Howard worked as a truck driver for 45 years, and he loved it. He enjoyed traveling of any kind, including trips to Norway, Yellowstone Park, through the Great Lakes regions, and Alaska. He also loved food of all kinds and enjoyed trying new things. He was a current member of the Sverdrup Lodge with Sons of Norway.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Marcia Hansen (Leiseth); four stepchildren, Jason (Wendy) Knudson, Kristin (Shawn) Oban, Kim Hemphill, and Kayla (Tim) Curtis; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; and grandson, Shawn Oban Jr.
