GEORGE FERRIS BELLOWS, died Monday, May 30, 2005, in Houston, Texas. Born 1925 in Oklahoma City to Anna and Warren Bellows, he moved with his family to Houston 1n 1936. George graduated from the Kinkaid School and attended Rice University and the University of Texas, where he received a degree in civil engineering after serving in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Following graduation, he joined his father and brothers at the W. S. Bellows Construction Corporation as an engineer, eventually becoming president in 1979. During those years George was involved with various committees of the Associated General Contractors of America, also serving as president of the Houston Chapter, One of the prime interests of George's life was his devotion to the Texas Medical Center, where he was a Board member from 1976 to the present. His particular love was Texas Children's Hospital. He joined the Board in 1967, serving as president from 1973 - 1975 and chairman in 1983. He served on numerous committees, including the Building Committee from 1971 until the present. George was a member of and former president of The Houston Country Club. At, UT, he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Ann Harris Bellows of San Angelo; his parents; his brother, Warren; and sister, Elizabeth Williams. He is survived by his wife, Lois DuBose Miller Bellows; son, Dr. Wayne Bellows and wife, Laura of Mill Valley, California; daughter, Marilyn Bellows and her husband, Doug Edmondson, of Austin; brother, Frank and wife, Sanny; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express deepest appreciation to Dr. James Pool. A Memorial Service will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon Thursday, the 2nd of June 2005 at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests that memorials be directed to Texas Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice.
