ROBERT GENE LOCHBAUM, 81, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the Meritus Medical Center. Born Tuesday, November 24, 1936 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Earl Bishop Lochbaum and the late Dorothy Rose (Buhrman) Lochbaum.

Bob graduated in 1958 from Shippensburg University with Bachelor Degree's in science and business, he went on to receive Master's Degrees in Guidance and Counseling and also in Administration and Supervision from the George Washington University. Bob served six and one half years in the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was employed with the Washington County Public School System for 50 1/2 years. He was a business teacher at South Hagerstown High School and then as Guidance counselor at North Hagerstown High School for 44 years, retiring in 2008. Bob was a part-time instructor at Hagerstown Community College for 35 years and also at the American Institute of Banking Instruction.

In addition to teaching and counseling students, Bob's love and hobby was playing music. He played trombone during high school, in the marching band, orchestra and the dance band. While at Shippensburg he was a member of the college band and orchestra. During college and at the beginning of his teaching career, he played with the Phil Young Dance Orchestra for six years and the Luke Bare Dixieland Band for two years. He played with the Hagerstown Municipal Band for 10 years. He also played with the Tall Cedars Band, Ali Ghan Shrine Band, Tri-State Big Band, New Horizons Senior Band, the Sunday School Orchestra and a Christmas Brass Group that played at Nursing Homes in both Hagerstown and Chambersburg for over 20 years.

Bob was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of AF&AM Masonic Lodge 217, Scottish Rite of Cumberland, Tall Cedars, where he was Grand Tall in 1998, Ali Ghan Shrine Club in Hagerstown and Cumberland and the Hillbilly Clan. He was also a member of the Morris Frock American legion Post 42, VFW, Moose Club, B.P.O. Elks Lodge 378, North American Rod & Gun Club, South Mountain Rod & Gun Club and the Eagles, Inc. of Waynesboro.

He is survived by his wife Ann Catherine (Bair) Lochbaum; two sons, Mark R. Lochbaum and Steven E. Lochbaum.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Lochbaum and Frances Strickland, and brothers, Earl Lochbaum and Paul Lochbaum.

Services will be held at Haven Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, MD. Interment will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD. Arrangements by the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home.
