James (born ca. 1826) is the son of James and Sarah (Evans) Coberly. He had siblings; Bennett E., Henry B., Enoch, and Upton E..

A resident of Middleport, Iroquois County, when he enlisted 12 August 1862 in the 113th IL Vol. Infantry. Coberly mustered in with Co. F on 01 Oct 1862. He was discharged from service on 04 Mar 1863 due to disability.

Married Ellenor Ann Harris (ca. 1831, Indiana - 26 Nov 1874), daughter of David Harris and Elizabeth (Chess) Harris.

James and Ellenor had children; Enoch, Margaret E., George Washington, REbecca Lou, Wesley Jerome (5712280), Sarah Catherine,Hiram Charles, Francis Marion, and David H. Coberly.
