Arliss Richard Jeffries

- - Arliss Richard Jeffries was born on November 30, 1941 in Kokomo, IN to John Robert and Ruby Price Jeffries and passed away on August 26, 2018 after an extended illness.

He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1960, received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Theater and English Literature in 1965, and obtained his Master's Degree in Dramatic Literature from Purdue University in 1976.

He married E. Linda Canfield on June 5, 1965 in Indianapolis, IN and she survives.

He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Lafayette, IN.

He taught for 41 years, 36 of them at West Lafayette Community Schools where he taught all levels of English, was a faculty sponsor for many groups, directed many class plays, and served as a negotiator for the West Lafayette Teachers' Union. He was active in theater from the age of 16 and has either directed or acted in over 350 productions, as well as adapting stories for radio theater. He was an actor and director for Civic Theater of Lafayette, Kokomo Civic Theater, Purdue University Theater, Indiana University Theater, the Wisconsin Shakespeare Festival, Chancel Players of Lafayette, and outdoor dramas in Kentucky and North Carolina. He was an accomplished Shakespearean actor. He served on the Board of Directors for Chancel Players and Civic Theater. He appeared in several films and did voice-overs for many local and state businesses and politicians. He taught acting and voice-over techniques in Lafayette.

He is survived by his two children, Benjamin Jeffries and Rebecca Yuill (husband Damon), daughter—in-law Megan Jeffries, grandchildren Anthony and Eric Yuill, Josie and Tyler Jeffries, his brother Wesley Jeffries (wife Sheryl) and his sister, Shirley Nelson, both of Kokomo, and a large extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents and his son Daniel Jeffries.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at St. John's Episcopal Church, 600 Ferry St., Lafayette, Indiana on Saturday, September 1st at 10:00. Memorial contributions to St. John's Episcopal Church.
