Franklin Dewey Gallagher, age 80 of Sheridan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 in Lansing.

He was born the son of Dewey & Mildred (Reynolds) Gallagher and they along with his wife, Joan; step-son, Ronald Schaffer and special friend Maxine Ryan have preceded him in death.

Surviving Dewey are his daughters, Doreen (Tom) Baker of Eaton Rapids; Deneen (Greg Powell) Gallagher of Lansing; step-children, Linda (Larry) Christenson of Sheridan; Jeff (Sheryl) Schaffer of Indiana; Jim (Laurie) Schaffer of Illinois; grandchildren, Micheal (Danielle) Baker of Eaton Rapids; Kelly (Greg) VanderMolen of Westminster, Maryland; several step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Mace Gallagher Baker; Evan VanderMolen; several step-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick & Penny Gachter of Sheridan and his best friend, Mary Reisbig of Ionia.

Dewey was a guy who loved spending time outdoors and liked chasing that elusive big buck and also spent more time fishing than catching. While he enjoyed those things along with many others, his two biggest loves in life were his family and his tractors. Dewey was a member of the Flat River Antique Tractor Club and enjoyed pulling his tractors. Just this past Father’s Day, he took 1st place pulling at the Ionia Farm Power show, something he was very proud of.

Dewey’s family would like to invite everyone to a visitation with them on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 3-7 PM at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan.

Funeral services for Dewey will begin at 11 AM on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Final interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

For those wishing to make a memorial donation in Dewey’s memory the family suggests they be directed to Ionia Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home on Friday and Saturday.
