!Death is from an obituary in the Albany Ledger, a newspaper in the Albany Library in Albany, Missouri. It is dated March 26, 1909. Granville's obituary was received from Betty Soper. In part it reads, Granville S. Akes died at his home southeast of Albany and one and a half miles north of New Castle, last Friday afternoon March 19 at half past five o'clock. He lacked less than three months of being 90 years of age. Funeral services were held and the burial was made at the Jones Chapel, which was formerly known as the Stafford Union. Granville Smith
Akes was born in Kentucky June 9, 1819. At the age of six years he moved with his parents to McGooken (Macoupin) Ill. and in 1836 he moved to Jefferson Co. Iowa. At the age of 21 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hart and to this union was born 12 children, six sons and six daughters. He united with the U.B. church when 24 years old and lived a faithful Christain until his death
