PENHOOK, Va. Franklin Dewey "Frank" Brown, age 84, of Penhook, passed away on the morning of Friday, August 24, 2018, with his wife, caregiver, and future granddaughter-in-law by his side. He was born November 13, 1933, in Rural Retreat, Virginia, to the late Dewey L. Brown and Cecelia O'Grady Brown.

He was also predeceased by two sisters, Peggy B. Sisserson and Barbara B. Bowles; and his brother, Dallas L. Brown.

He graduated from Saltville High School and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Husbandry on June 10, 1956. He was a proud four-year member of the Virginia Tech Football Team coached by Frank O. Moseley. While attending Virginia Tech, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and the German Club. Following graduation he served as 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. His professional banking career led him to work in the Virginia areas of Abingdon, Charlottesville, Blacksburg, and Roanoke.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pamela K. Brown of the residence; and his children, Franklin D. Brown, Jr. (Kathleen) of Abingdon, Va., Jeffrey L. Brown of Roanoke, Va., Amy B. Browne (Win) of Boykins, Va., Lisa L. Baker (Vernon) of Charlottesville, Va., and Donna L. Celio (Steve), of Ashburn, Va. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Whitney B. Famely, Clayton Brown, Winston Brown, IV, Maury L. Baker, Keely A. Baker, Andrew L. Celio, and Owen M. Celio, and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Frank's life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018, at Trinity Episcopal Church of Rocky Mount by the Rev. David Taylor. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery in Charlottesville. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Phoebe Needles Center, 732 Turners Creek Road, Callaway, VA 24067-5814, or to the VT Monogram Club, 185 Beamer Way, Suite 112, Blacksburg, VA 24061.
