Prosperity - Services for Jacob Loris "Scronch" Boland, 85, of 565 S.C. Highway 773, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the residence and will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2496 S.C. Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126. Mr. Boland died February 17, 2003 in Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born in Prosperity, he was a son of the late Farence Alonzo and Alma Fellers Boland. Mr. Boland was an honor graduate of Prosperity High School and a 1937 graduate of Newberry College. Briefly he taught school and then served in the U.S. Navy. He then began working for the federal government in Washington, D.C., Bld. T-7, U.S. Army Material Command as a classified personnel specialist and retired in July 1975. He received numerous awards and honors for his work and after retirement continued working as a consultant for the federal government. He later returned to his birthplace of Prosperity where he was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Golden Agers, the Chat-Chew Group, traveled with the Seniors and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Surviving are his wife, June Adelle Bass Boland; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Elaine and Thomas Kohl of Lake Wales, Fla.; grandchildren, Tony and his spouse, Elizabeth Kohl, Kevin Kohl and Stacy Kohl; great-granddaughter, Callista Kohl; nephew and his spouse, Gene and Gretchen Boland of Chapin.
