Owen Glendale Hughes was born on May 9, 1907, in Farmington, Utah, the son of Charles Walker Hughes and Lettie Gertrude Barkdull Hughes. He married Meda Jane Toone on June 21, 1957, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

At the time of his death, Owen was a construction analyst. He worked for the Federal Housing Administration for five years; was a former partner of Hughes Brothers Construction Company; former 30-year employee of Salt Lake Hardware Company, and also worked for Aviation Industrial Supply, in Ogden.

He was a former Bountiful City Councilman, where he was instrumental in installing the city sewer system and the Weber water irrigation system.

He was a High Priest in the Bountiful 33rd LDS Ward, counselor in the bishopric of the Centerville 2nd Ward, Ward Clerk of the Bountiful 3rd Ward, member of the Stake Sunday School superintendecy; Stake High Priest leader; Scoutmaster, Sunday School teacher, temple worker, and High Priest class teacher.

Owen passed away at the age of 62, on Saturday, July 5, 1969, in a Salt Lake hospital of a heart ailment.

He was survived by his widow, Meda, son and daughters: Mark Owen Hughes, of Bountiful; Jane Hughes, of Bountiful; Mrs. H. Blaine (Gwen) Law, Titusville, Florida; and Mrs. Michael (Beth) Harmon, Los Angeles, California; 6 grandchildren; brother, H. Preston Hughes; and sister, Mrs. Delmar (Lois) Duncan), both of Bountiful. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Herman Hughes and Austin Lovell Hughes.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, in the Bountiful 33rd Ward Chapel, with Raymond Tenhoeve conducting. Interment in the Bountiful Memorial Park, with the dedication of the grave by John O. Hughes.
