Mason Brown Passes Away. Grafton Sentinel. Grafton, WV. Mon., Jan. 15, 1940. pg. 6


L. Mason Brown, 67 years old, a retired track foreman for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, died Saturday afternoon at his home in Westerman, near Thornton, after a two-weeks illness of pneumonia. A native of Taylor County, the deceased was born on September 7, 1872, the son of the late William J. and Mary Jane Poe Brown.

Mr. Brown was twice married, first to Rosetta Stella Ball, deceased, and second to Mary Rosier, also deceased. Survivors include six children; Roy Brown, Mrs. Clarice P. Robinson, Blueville, Mrs. Esta Nose, Fairmont, Mrs. Edith Martin, Washington, Pa., Mrs. Bertha Rutherford and Mrs. Lila Rutherford, Indiana; two step-children, Miss Vivian Rosier and Mrs. Lillian Shreves, Baltimore, Md.; and the following brothers and sisters: James Brown, Keyser, Lee Brown, Grafton, Claude B. Brown of Fairmont, Mrs. Iva Utterback, Mrs. Stella Henderson, Mrs. Lena Kincaid, and Mrs. Effie Harrington, all of Fairmont. One son, Earl W. Brown, was killed during the World War.

A lifelong resident of this county, Mr. Brown was a member of the Baptist church. He had been employed for many years by the railroad company. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Thornton Methodist Church with the Rev. J. E. Auvil officiating. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery under the direction of G. T. Bartlett.
