Jimmie E. Childers, 85, of of Miami, Florida; Gallatin, Tennessee; and most recently Franklin, passed away Aug. 18.

Mr. Childers was the founder and president of JE Childers Drilling and Blasting Inc. for 40-plus years, the largest blasting company in the South.

He was also a highly decorated paratrooper in the Korean War, the 11th Airborne Division, 187th Regimental Combat Team, at age 16. By age 17, he had been awarded three bronze stars, a Purple Heart and a plethora of other medals.

He was a proud graduate of the school of hard knocks, an unprofessional alligator wrestler, diver, artist, harmonica player, guitarist and boxer.

He was preceded in death by his dedicated and loving wife of 65 years, Margie Childers, herself an accomplished fencer, writer, artist, bad violinist (not in a good way) and lover of everyone, especially her husband.

Mr. Childers is survived by Taco, his beloved dog; two children, Jamie (Mary) Childers and Susie (Doug) Hines; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a devoted, loving sister, Rose Bothello (Ernie); special brother-in-law, Carl (Karen) Hearn; beloved brother, Johnny; longtime close family friend, Jane Klein Teasley; special friends, Shari and Johnny Richardson, Debbie (John) Miller, Will and Judy Burchett, and Monica, Steven and Logan Duncan, and Harley and Louise Holcomb; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of lifelong friends.

In lieu of flowers or a public service, go out to dinner and celebrate the fact that both Jimmie and Margie believed that no two people could have asked for a better, more full life than they both have lived.
