Bessie Elizabeth Clanton Bazemore, age 96, passed away on August 17, 2018 after a short illness. Mrs. Bazemore was born on April 7, 1922 in Downs Town to William Perry Clanton and Tucy Lee Clanton. She was married to the love of her life, Hawley T. Bazemore, for over 50 years prior to his death in 1993. She worked at Harn’s Variety Store for many years, Bedingfield Pharmacy, City of Pembroke and Bryan County Elementary School lunchroom. She was known by everyone for always having an open door to her home and offering a helping hand to others. Mrs. Bazemore was a member of the Pembroke United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women’s Circle. She was also actively involved with 4-H and Cub Scouts. She cherished her time with the Order of the Eastern Star and went on to serve as Worthy Matron. She never met a stranger. She spread her love and compassion far and wide. In later years, she enjoyed flowers, birds, but most of all family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bazemore is predeceased by her son, Randall H. Bazemore and daughter-in-law, Jan Sasser Bazemore. She is survived by two daughters: Brenda Smith and husband Milton and Bonnie Kay Hughes and husband Robert, of Pembroke. She has 5 grandchildren: Sydney Michelle Bacenas (Tom) of Los Angeles, California, Tracy Bacenas (Jason) of Ottawa, Canada, Joseph T. Hughes, Amie Bautista (Ernesto), both of Pembroke, and Melissa K. Shuman (Davey) of Black Creek. She has 6 great-grandchildren: Sayanna and Faith Bautista, Savana Hughes, Grant Shuman, and Dylan and Andrew Grant.

Visitation will be Monday, August 20th at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 21st at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Matt Avera and Dr. Thad Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Northside Cemetery in Pembroke.
