John C. Lind, age 86, of Deepwater, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2018, peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota on October 16, 1931 to Chester and Myrtle Lind.

He moved to International Falls, Minnesota as a teenager. He worked at the paper mill there until he joined the Air Force in 1951. He met and married Virginia Leach in 1952. He served an 18 month tour in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict. They moved to Moses Lake, Washington to serve out the rest of his tour, returning to International Falls.

He attended a year of college at Wahpeton, North Dakota studying architecture and went on to build a home in International Falls. Then they moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he worked for a couple of architects and built another home in Raytown. In 1960, they moved to Minneapolis where he worked as the superintendent of the model shop for Franklin Mfg. until they moved the plant to St. Cloud. He then began managing Gemini, Inc., a plastic plant. Eventually the plant needed to expand, so a second plant was built in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. John and Virginia moved to Red Wing, Minnesota in 1973, to closely supervise the plant for the next decade until retiring at 52 and building another home there.

They owned a 120 acre property, raised Herefords and quarter horses and sold produce. In 1992, they moved to Deepwater, Missouri, living the idyllic life in the country, where he built and flew remote control airplanes and found unlimited things to occupy his time.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Leach Lind, his daughter, Becky (Larry) Olson, four grandchildren: Jennifer (Tony) Heeter, Whitney (Elliott) Smith, Jon Olson and Andrew Olson and four great-grandchildren: Tug Heeter and Adeline, Eleanor and Margaret Smith, three sister: Pat (Mikael) Borjesson, Judi (Bill) Kieper and Kathy (Greg) Todd, a brother, Bill (Debbie) Lind as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews, and last but certainly not least: the best friends anyone could ask for: Rick and Judy Schliefert, without whose unending, generous help, his last months would not have enabled him to remain at home.

A memorial service will be determined at a later date.
