Charles W. Byrd, 72, of Hershey, Pa. passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003. He was a retired United Methodist Minister with Cokesbury, a division of the United Methodist Publishing House; author, co-founder of the Central PA Writers Organization; former member of the 82nd Airborne; a former member of the Pulaski, VA Police Force and served several Methodist churches in the Pulaski, VA area in his early years.

He was born in Middlesboro, KY to the late Cloye Byrd and Viola Whitaker.

Charles attended Berea College in Berea, KY and graduated from Wake Forest University and Duke University Divinity School.

A Memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Hershey, Pa.

It was requested that memorial contributions be made to PAWS (Society for Preservation of Animal Welfare & Safety, Inc.) or the Salvation Army, Harrisburg, PA

In 1958, Charles was a top performer in the continued presentation of "Wilderness Road" a historical pageant written for the celebration of Berea College's 100th anniversary in 1955
