AFFINITO LILYAN H.

Age 86, of New York City, formerly of Monongahela, died Friday, June 29, 2018, in Sunrise Senior Living, Upper St. Clair. Born July 21, 1931, in Monongahela, she was the daughter of Ralph C., Sr. and Lena Dallo Affinito. After her graduation in 1949 from Monongahela High School, Lilyan went on to earn her bachelor of science degree in hotel management with a minor in accounting from Cornell University in 1953, followed by her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. After her graduation, she began working at Price Waterhouse & Co. in Pittsburgh and was later transferred to the company's New York City office. Through hard work, she became the president and COO of the Simplicity Pattern Co. and remained president even after its merger with the Maxxam Group. Lilyan was appointed to numerous corporate board of director seats, including the Chrysler Corp., working directly with Lee Iacocca; the Caterpillar Corp.; the Mayo Clinic and others. She was a longtime active member of the Church of the Holy Family, United Nations Parish, in New York City. She also stayed extremely active with the Cornell University alumni and was instrumental in establishing the Lilyan H. Affinito Scholarship fund. Surviving are her brother, Ralph C. Affinito, Jr. of Gibsonia; three nieces and two nephews, great-nieces and a great-nephew and many cousins. Preceding her in death were her sister, Emma Mae Affinito Jack, and Emma's husband, John Jack. Friends and family are invited to meet at St. Damien of Molokai Parish, 722 W. Main St., Monongahela, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018, with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10 a.m. with the Father William Terza as Celebrant.
