He was born one of six children as Major Robert Allen Jr. (Major is his actual first name and not a military rank), to Major Robert Allen Sr. and his wife Sebena Saunders Allen in New Haven, Connecticut, on April 13, 1896, another source says April 13, 1897. He was educated locally, and later attended and was educated at the prestigious Howard University in Washington, D.C. During his early school days, he also excelled in baseball, football, and hockey, and was a member of a baseball team for two seasons and a hockey team for two seasons, with his future occupation being business. Following his education, he worked as a laborer in his native New Haven, Connecticut, and was drafted during World War I, but he never served, before pursuing a professional baseball career. He played the position of second baseman and shortstop with the Brooklyn Royal Giants in 1919. He continued to play with the Brooklyn Royal Giants through the rest of the baseball season of 1919. The 5'9" and 193lbs second baseman and shortstop who threw right also played with the Brooklyn Royal Giants in 1920, the Lincoln Giants from 1919 to 1920, and the Baltimore Black Sox in 1922. His 162 Game Average consisted of 0 Wins, 0 Losses, 0 Win Percentages, 68 Games, 0 Games Started, 0 Games Finished, 0 Complete Games, 0 Shutouts, 0 Saves, 136.0 Innings Pitched, 0 Homeruns, 0 Earned Runs, 68 Walks, 204 Strikeouts, 0 Wild Pitches, 0 Balks, 0 Batters Hit By Pitch, 612 Batters Faced, 0.00 Earned Run Average or ERA, and 0 Adjusted Earned Run Average or ERA. He passed away from natural causes at his home in New York City, New York, on March 30, 1947, at the age of 49 or 50. He had been in failing health with heart disease, hypertension, exhaustion, and renal failure, for more than a year. Following his death, his funeral service was held at the Levy & Delany Funeral Home in New York City, New York, and at the St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in New York City, New York, and he was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, New York. He was married to Mercedes Allen. The couple had no children together.
