Hastings resident Betty Jane Stoetzel 90 years old died on August 5, 2018 in Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday August 11, 2018 at 10:30 am at Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings with Bishop Jim Bono officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery. Visitation Friday, August 10, 2018 with the family present from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings.

Betty was born to Andrew and Mildred Svendgard on September 18,1927 in Blair, Nebraska. Robert Milton, Betty's twin brother died 3 months later.

Betty lived west of Blair on a farm all her life. She attended Marsh county school till grade 10 and often road her horse to school. She then attended Blair High School. After Betty graduated high school she went directly into nursing training, Cadet Core in Omaha at Methodist Hospital.

In 1946 Betty met her husband Pete on a blind date while he was attending school at Hastings College and she was in psychiatric nurse's training at Hastings Regional Center. As soon as Betty finished her nurse's training program they were married Nov 26, 1948

When Pete was in the United States Army during World War II Betty was in the Army Cadet Core nurses training program. She was paid by the government to train, but her class was the last one covered for the 3-year program. On February 4, 1949 Betty was licensed as a registered nurse.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hastings.

Betty and her husband Pete had 8 children, 7 girls and one boy. All of them had red hair except one and all their names all started with the letter (S).

Betty is survived by 6 daughters and her son;

20 grandchildren 32 great grandchildren 1 great great grandchild, one sister, Judith Lum, of California and brother Andy Svendgard and she also survived by one son-in-law Mark Myers

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Isadore “Pete”, her parents, one sister, Doris Jean, and 4 brothers; Robert her twin, Richard, James and Stan, her daughter, Sallie Myers and one grandson Tyler Stoetzel.
